Both the District Council and GP referred Glenys to Dartmouth Caring. She was very ill, unable to work and wasn’t coping very well.

Dartmouth Caring helped Glenys and her family organise and manage her affairs, by sorting Housing Benefit, liaising with the Department of Work and Pensions, payment of utility bills and liaising with banks. Alongside the practical support, Dartmouth Caring helped emotionally as well, and accompanied Glenys and her family members to meetings.Dartmouth Caring also helped in applying to Devon Home Choice for a new property, and dealt with Housing Association matters. They also ensured carpet was installed, obtained some furniture and helped with the move. With the help of staff and volunteers, they ensured Glenys settled into her new home and made it a nice place to live.

Dartmouth Caring remain in weekly contact with Glenys and help manage her paperwork and budgeting. She is becoming a more positive and content person, and her health and wellbeing is improving.

Glenys’ story illustrates some of the complex work and involvement that Dartmouth Caring have with many clients, elderly and not so elderly. They provide reliable high standard help, advice, advocacy and action for the vulnerable, in need and elderly amongst the Dartmouth community. Their input helps them, and their families, have a better life.
