Outdoor shading can make a big difference to your garden. Whether you want more cover when relaxing on the patio or to keep the sunlight off your home, a Haus Awning® is the ideal solution. But how long do they last? Nobody wants to spend money on something that needs replacing every year, and we understand that homeowners will need reassurance before committing to a purchase.

Here at Appeal, we’ve worked with Haus Awnings® for years, and we’d like to put your fears to rest. We’ve already talked about how good they are at withstanding bad weather, and if kept in good condition, you can expect your awnings to last for years.

Life Expectancy Of A Haus Awning®

The life expectancy of a Haus Awning® will vary depending on your personal circumstances and usage, but as a high-quality product, we expect them to last you many years into the future. The frames are made with high-quality materials and won’t rust or degrade, even in coastal regions. They will need routine care, such as brushing snow off the motor during winter and occasionally lubricating the mechanisms, but Haus Awning® frames are remarkably durable.

The fabric covering won’t last as long as the metal, but it’s still tougher than you might expect. It won’t fade or discolour due to UV exposure, and because it’s designed for outdoor use, it’ll be thicker than standard fabrics. It’s less likely to rip or fray, and you can expect it to last a long time if it’s well-maintained.

General Maintenance

You can prolong the life of your Haus Awning® without too much effort. We recommend extending it and giving it a good scrub at least twice a year. We usually do ours in early spring and at the end of summer; it keeps them in top condition, and they look great too.

Use a brush to sweep any debris off the fabric and out of the frame. If there are any stubborn stains, wet them lightly and use a sponge and over-the-counter cleaning solution to wipe them off. Once that’s done, rinse the whole thing off with a hose – be sure to let it dry fully before retracting – and your Awning should look fresh and clean. While you’re doing this, check for holes or tears in the fabric, and if you find any, repair them before they get any bigger.

If you have any bushes or trees nearby, cut them back, so there are no branches in the way, and you’ll reduce the chance of twigs or leaves getting stuck in the mechanisms. Lastly, be sure to lubricate the moving parts, so they keep working smoothly. You won’t need any special formulas; a basic spray from a home improvement shop will do the job nicely.
