At some point in time, you will have condensation issues. The only way to avoid it entirely is to live in a house without any windows. Condensation is an inescapable part of modern life, but can window blinds help you deal with it?

Here at Appeal Home Shading, we’ve got decades of experience working with window blinds. We’ve had many queries about whether blinds can prevent condensation, so we thought we’d gather all the facts in one place. Read on to find out more.

Window Blinds And Condensation

We’ll start by getting straight to the point; there are no window blinds that can stop condensation. Whoever invents them will make a fortune, but at present, there is no quick fix. That being said, blinds can help condensation to dissipate faster and reduce the chances of it building up. They won’t solve the problem but will help you manage it.

Condensation forms when there is a temperature difference either side of the window, with the inside being hotter than the outside. The disparity in heat causes moisture in the air to form droplets, and in extreme cases, this can lead to water damage in the window frames (especially in wooden ones) and problems with rot or mould.

The best window blinds for reducing condensation are the ones that allow air to circulate efficiently around the glass. Leaving your blinds shut over a wet window is a bad idea, but if you keep them open and the room is well-ventilated, the water should dissipate faster.

Water-Resistant Blinds

Of course, you wouldn’t install blinds just to keep them open all day. If you have windows that regularly condensate, you’ll need to choose blinds that won’t make it worse.  At Appeal, we offer a vast range of blind fabrics and many of these are suitable for use in moist conditions, and some are even waterproof.

Ultimately though, there are no bad choices. So long as you don’t keep your blinds closed all day, you can install any kind. Blinds that consist of a solid piece of fabric (for example, roller blinds) allow less circulation, but if you remember to open them regularly, they shouldn’t exacerbate any condensation.
