If you’re an ardent follower of the home improvement industry, you might have noticed a certain trend. In the past few years, more and more homeowners have been replacing glass conservatory roofs with solid ones. For good reason too. Solid conservatory roofs have better thermal efficiency than glass ones, so it’s easier to manage the temperature and make an extension liveable all year round. Solid roofs make conservatories less stuffy in the summer and warmer in the winter, as well as adding to the property value. It’s a win-win situation.

But what does this mean for conservatory roof blinds? Here at Appeal Home Shading, we first noticed this trend when we were contacted by a few worried former customers. They’d committed to a conservatory refurbishment but hadn’t factored their roof blinds into the equation and were now concerned about what to do. So, we thought we’d take a few minutes to look at the best shading options for tiled roof conservatories and hopefully put a few minds to rest. Read on to find out more.

Installing New Conservatory Roof Blinds

Let’s start by answering the obvious question; yes, you can still have blinds installed in your conservatory once the glass roof has been replaced. ‘Solid conservatory roof’ is a slightly misleading name, most of them still have glazing installed. It’s very common for them to include skylights (or ‘roof lights’ as they’re sometimes called) to let in ample sunlight.

This means that your new roof will require a shading option. It might have less glass than before, but conservatory roof blinds are still a must. Like the previous ones, they’ll help you regulate the temperature and control light levels more effectively. Plus, they’ll add a subtle sense of style. Think of them as a delightful finishing touch to your conservatory refurbishment.

Roof Lantern And Orangery Blinds

One other point worth making is that when replacing a conservatory roof, it doesn’t have to be the same style as the old one. Traditional arched roofs are sometimes swapped out for flat roofs and these have different requirements. They’ll often include a lantern roof in the design, in which case, specialised lantern roof blinds are a must.

That aside, we’ve also seen projects where it’s not just the roof that gets changed. We’ve seen entire conservatories taken down and replaced with orangeries, which have their own dedicated blinds. These come with all the same benefits as regular conservatory roof blinds, so you’ll able to specify your favourite colour, style, and dimensions, and even choose how to operate them. Want to equip your new orangery with automated, bespoke roller blinds? We’ve got you covered.
