Being environmentally friendly hasn’t always been a priority for homeowners, but it has become more important as public awareness of climate change has increased. People want their houses to be greener, and even the smallest change can make a difference.

One area that often gets overlooked is window blinds. The focus is on things like loft insulation, double-glazed windows, solar panels and even devices for harvesting rainwater, but the humble window blind can also do wonders.

We are committed to installing eco-friendly blinds and shutters here at Appeal Home Shading. Let’s take a look at how we can make your home greener.

Reduce Heating Bills

It’s estimated that up to 30% of heat is lost through windows (source). That’s a huge amount, but properly installed window blinds can reduce that figure. Honeycomb blinds for example, are a popular choice for saving energy. They’ve been designed to act as a thermal barrier, and the air pocket inside them helps to trap heat.

This means you’ll cut down on your energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint simultaneously. It’s not just during the winter either; in summer, honeycomb blinds can reduce heat absorption from the sun’s glare, so you won’t need the air conditioning permanently switched on to keep the house cool.

As a bonus, honeycomb blinds can also dampen external noise. If you live near a motorcycle enthusiast with an especially loud engine, honeycomb blinds will help make your home quieter.

Sustainability

Certain types of window blinds are specifically made from sustainable materials. Our eco roller blinds are built with recycled polyester that’s been processed into yarn. Similarly, our eco-wood window shutters are manufactured with Light Density Fibreboard (LDF), a product made by compressing resin and wood fibres together. The fibres are all taken from off-cuts, so no wood is wasted in their production. These products are all environmentally friendly and can be recycled once they reach the end of their lives.

High-Quality Eco Blinds And Shutters

Now let’s address the elephant in the room; no, choosing environmentally friendly products doesn’t mean sacrificing on quality. All our blinds and shutters are available in a range of stylish and eye-catching colours and designs. Eco-friendly blinds are not the second-best choice, and we have an option for every home.

Additionally, they can all be fitted with ULTRA®PLUS technology. Our blinds can be operated using tablets, smartphones or remote controls, and there’s no unsightly cords or wires hanging everywhere. A discreet battery powers them, and as it’s rechargeable, you won’t have to worry about sending it to a landfill when it runs out.
